ANGAIR met with Greenearth Energy recently to discuss possible drilling sites for Stages 1 and 2 of their renewable energy project.

Our input influenced their decision to short-list two sites, one on the Anglesea Heath (the old Gun Club area), and one on private land (a gravel extraction area). These sites are being reviewed with the Government regulators – DSE, Parks Vic etc., and a final decision will be made in a few months. Needless to say, ANGAIR made it very clear that they are not in favour of any of the Anglesea Heath being destroyed, and are working hard to prevent that from happening.

Year 9 students from Geelong College recently visited three sites in Anglesea and Wensleydale as part of their Environmental Studies. ANGAIR members helped them identify indigenous plants and weeds, and their relationship with the environment. Thank you to all who gave up a lot of their time for this project. We believe that the students will be more aware of their environment following their time here.

ANGAIR operates stalls at various markets and fetes held each year in our district. Apart from selling ANGAIR merchandise – books & plant – we also aim to increase general awareness of our aims and ideals for the environment. At the time of printing this newsletter, ANGAIR has successfully held a stall at the “Emirates Melbourne Cup Tour”, Anglesea Riverbank Farmers’ Market on Sunday, 23 October, and is anticipating another such venture at the Aireys Inlet Primary School Fete on the Saturday, 29 October (Cup Weekend).
