Members of the Committee have been very active in ensuring that the Anglesea Heath continues to be protected, whatever the outcome of the Alcoa sale process.

We have met with State Government MPs, their advisers and relevant departmental staff, and also Shadow Ministers for the Environment and Energy. We have been assured that the economic, social and environmental values of the Heath are well understood, and that the strong Management Plan and associated agreements will be maintained or improved through any sale process to a new owner.

Should the power station and mine not sell, we have been assured that an effective rehabilitation process will be put in place, with the inclusion of the relinquished leasehold in the Great Otway National Park being considered.

Parkwatch, the journal of the Victorian National Parks Association, carried an excellent article, written by Angair Member Sally White, highlighting the values of the Anglesea Heath.

We will continue to actively monitor the sale process.

Environmental Award to Carl Rayner

Congratulations to Carl Rayner, leader of Angair’s Environmental Care Program. Carl has been awarded the Environmental Volunteer of the Year award from the Kardinia Rotary Club. The award covers volunteers who work in the City of Greater Geelong, Golden Plains Shire, Surf Coast Shire and the Borough of Queenscliff. Carl is a passionate and inspirational champion of Angair’s Environmental Care Program, and the Committee is delighted to have his contribution to our environment recognised. Carl’s award comes with a $750 contribution to Angair’s Environmental Care program, and will be used on the Anglesea Bushland Reserve project, starting next week.

Library catalogue online

Thanks to great work by Rod Brooks, the Angair library catalogue is now available, and easy to use online. To find what we hold, by an author or on a particular subject, e.g. fungi, weeds, birds etc., go to the Angair website, click on the Library tab, and the catalogue will appear. Use the search box to enter an author, a subject or a title – or a word from a title. Listed are the author, title, date and Dewey number –to find it on the shelves – and the library generated subject headings.

The library is open every Monday afternoon from 12 noon–2.00 p.m., or by arrangement – call Mandy on 0403 136 670 if needed.

Loans are only recorded manually in the Loans Book in the library at this stage, and information about current availability in not yet on line. If you want a book, it’s necessary to check at the library for its availability.
