Bells Beach (Southside) to Point Addis (a moderate walk with some steepish sections and steps. Approximately 7km)
This walk forms part of the Surf Coast Walk from Southside to Point Addis and includes a car shuttle. From the Southside carpark we will head across the heathland along a well-formed track. The coastal heathland gives way to Messmate woodland as the track climbs gently towards Ironbark Basin. Since the walk is scheduled during spring, we will no doubt pause from time to time to appreciate the wildflowers along the way.
From the picnic area at the top of Ironbark Basin, the track descends through Red Ironbark forest towards Point Addis and includes the Koorie Cultural Walk with interpretive signs describing aspects of the Aboriginal way of life. Spectacular coastal views can be seen from vantage points overlooking Addiscott Beach and along the boardwalk at Point Addis.
Wear sturdy boots. Bring morning tea and lunch, and a hiking stick – some sections are likely to be slippery after rain.
