Marengo to Shelley Beach (a moderate walk approximately 6km one way including a car shuffle)
This walk forms part of the day walks along Great Ocean Walk and takes in coastal bushland, coastal rock platforms and beaches.
The track initially weaves above the ocean, passing holiday homes and farmland before descending to the beach. Subject to the tide we can walk along the beach past Swell Point and the BlowHole. Alternatively, we head inland walking above the ocean. We then have the opportunity to walk along the beach for 700m at Three Creeks beach and time to look for Hooded Plovers who have previously been seen in the area.
There are rocky platforms to observe and enjoy, and some rocks to scramble over before heading inland where we cross the valley and begin the climb in the coastal forest to the Shelley Beach picnic area. Here we will have lunch before completing the car pool to Marengo Beach.
There is the option to do the return walk subject to how people feel on the day.
Wear sturdy boots. Bring morning tea and lunch, and a hiking stick – some sections are likely to be slippery and unsteady where we walk over rocky areas.
Meet at Aireys Inlet Community Hall Car park at 9.00 am. Will car pool from there.
