After over a week of very high temperatures it was great to wake up on Saturday, March 16 and find a pleasant cool morning for our scheduled walk from Anglesea to Aireys Inlet, a section of the newly developed Surf Coast Walk. Some of the members met at Aireys Inlet, and others at ANGAIR.  There were 13 in the group that eventually assembled at Point Roadknight at about 9.45am to begin the walk.

Start of the walk

The walk began from the car park at Point Roadknight where we made our way up the narrow track that leads down to the beach. We noted that it was 4.5km to Urquhart Bluff where we intended to have morning tea.

Waves

The wind was blowing, but not strongly, and the waves were quite spectacular.

Rainbow

The rainbow in the grey sky over the Split Point Lighthouse seemed to be carrying a message for us.

Morning tea

However the sun was still shining when we reached Urquhart Bluff, and it was very pleasant sitting on the grass where we had our morning tea.

Views

From the beach we made our way up the up-graded track to where there are still remnants of the old Great Ocean Road.  There were some great views framed by the vegetation.

Seat

Ross and Lynn took advantage of the newly installed seat to admire the view, while Lachie watched on.

Track along the top

Once at the top, the next section of the walk was along the newly constructed track through the coastal bushland of the Great Otway National Park.

Raincoats

And then the rainbow proved true, and it was time to put on the raincoats.

Lunch

However the rain was short-lived, but nevertheless we sheltered under the Moonahs to eat our lunch, just in case.

It was then time to make our way down to the beach at Aireys Inlet, up the track to Sunnymeade and then back to the cars at the Anglesea Community Hall.  It was a great walk and we thank Lachie for planning and leading it for us.

We were pleased to welcome one of our new members, Mick Lumb, for his first Friends' activity and hope that he can join with us on many occasions.
