We have seven Hooded Plover pairs along the Surf Coast, guarding their territories and getting ready to nest. The pair at Point Roadknight surprised by nesting earlier than usual. They have two very active chicks nearly four weeks old. They are having a great time feeding on the reef at low tide.
There is also a nest at Lorne with two eggs and we hope for chicks there on 31 October. Last season RA and his partner were successful with two chicks fledging there in February. Now a different pair, EV and partner, have taken over the same stretch of beach. Maybe RA will return later in the season as he did last year.
The volunteers on the beach have met many interested visitors and locals who want to learn more about the hoodies. If you would like to volunteer as a Hoodie warden contact me at janicejohnoz@yahoo.com.au
