It was great to have four people, who are new Angair members, join us on the March bird walk along the very scenic beaches and wetlands of Breamlea and Ocean Grove.

The glorious weather meant that the birds were competing with large numbers of happy holidaymakers. We were amazed to see large flocks of shorebirds at the mouth of the Barwon River, disappearing after landing, as they sank down and sat in amongst the seaweed and debris on the soft sand. Of special interest were sightings of two Hooded Plovers, a flock of Royal Spoonbills, a soaring Brown Falcon at Breamlea, and combined flocks of Double-banded Plovers, Red-capped Plovers and Red-necked Stints at Ocean Grove.

A bird list and photos can be found on the March 2011 Bird Walk page.

The next bird walk will be nearer home, by the Anglesea River.
