The Department of Environment, Environment and Climate Action (DEECA) has called in a team of Angair propagators to help rescue plants of the endangered endemic Anglesea Grevillea, Grevillea infecunda.
A colony of the plant is threatened by road works on Tanner Rd scheduled for this month. There are an estimated 1600 plants in 11 separate wild populations restricted to Anglesea and Aireys Inlet.
The Angair team will remove the whole plants or, if that is impossible, take cuttings to ensure that this precious plant boosts its numbers.
Research suggests 95% of the Anglesea Grevillea’s pollen is infertile which means that it only reproduces by root division. It is nationally listed as vulnerable and was recently regraded as endangered under the Victorian Flora and Fauna Guarantee Act.
