As I write it is prime season for robins. Everybody and birdwatchers in particular love robins. Eastern Yellow Robins are present all year round but red robins are more common from April to September. There are actually four red robins seen locally: Scarlet, Flame, Pink and Rose. The males are colourful and the females are relatively dull and often difficult to distinguish. The most common species in our area is the Scarlet Robin and these are a bird of the bush.

Flame Robins are my favourite and more likely to be seen on fences and in paddocks.

And why are robins so popular – so cute, so colourful, not too small, not too common, not too flighty – just right for binoculars and photography!
