It was a reasonable day for bird watching weather-wise, although a bit windy for spotting bush birds. There was a good turn-up: 13 bird watchers, including Oscar who was 9 years old and had a great knowledge of birds and excellent eyesight. There were several people new to Angair bird walks in the group.

We started from the playground, and followed the route shown below.

Coogoorah Park route

Coogoorah Park route

This includes water and bush areas within the park, Coalmine Road (which often has interesting bush birds) and the track north from Bingley Parade, which again often has interesting bush birds.

The list of birds we saw is shown in the table below: 32 species in all. Highlights were :

  • Six Latham’s Snipes – in the vicinity of the snipes was a very healthy looking fox
  • Rufous Fantail – noting I have never seen this bird previously at Coogoorah

Sorry to say, no photos of the birds available for the report.

Some participants left after about an hour and a half, and the remainder continued for another hour or so. On this occasion we didn’t have morning tea. An excellent morning of bird watching.
