Professional shooters from contractor Sako late last month successfully carried out the first week of Parks Victoria’s deer control program. Parks officers supervised the cull.
Most of the nearly 30 fallow deer that were removed from the Great Otway National Park were taken from Eumeralla although the Ironbark Basin was also in the target area.
Sako used thermal drones to locate the deer at night. Once dispatched, the deer were harvested and the carcasses taken to an approved Prime Safe facility for processing.
The contractors will return to the Great Otway National Park later this month and in early August.
