Discovering the treasures of the Painkalac Estuary
Angair Walk, Sunday 23 February
Gail Slykhuis
Meet Aireys Inlet Community Hall car park
Have you ever wondered about the vegetation growing alongside the Painkalac Estuary? Join us as we identify these interesting estuarine plants as well as the many coastal plants growing in the vicinity. One of the specialised plants to look out for is the fascinating Beaded Glasswort, Salicornia quinqueflora, subsp. quinqueflora, that clearly shows adaptation to the estuarine environment, the extensive mats of Creeping Brookweed, Samolus repens, and the bright mauve flowers of Creeping Monkey-flower, Thyridia repens.
This relaxed walk will take us alongside a section of the Painkalac Creek, then onto the beach before walking uphill to the Split Point Lighthouse where interested walkers may enjoy a coffee.
Wear suitable clothing, bring water and meet at the Aireys Inlet Community Hall car park.
Registration is essential so contact Gail on 0401 301 851.
