If you have noticed while driving around the Surf Coast that advisory signs warning of the presence of wildlife have changed, you are an alert driver.
For some years the signs in the Surf Coast that displayed a telephone number if drivers hit an animal and needed to report the accident had a disconnected number.
When Angair discovered the fatal error, it approached the Shire to see if the inoperative numbers could be replaced with that of the local Surfcoast Wildlife Rescue. Unfortunately, that was a private number that couldn’t be used on public signage.
The obsolete road signs are now being replaced with visual warnings of wildlife in the area but no rescue phone numbers. To help make an operative service better known, Angair has printed free car stickers with the 24/7 Helpline service’s number. The stickers are available at the Angair office and the annual Wildflower & Arts Show.
