More than 100 people filled the Anglesea Community Garden in early January to farewell much loved and admired local resident, Eathorne Mitchell. Eathorne and husband John have moved to Foster in Gippsland to be closer to their children.

Arranged by the Community Gardeners, the evening was a happy mixture of memories, laughter, singing, eating and drinking.

The Mitchells were given two artistic mementos to take to their new home. The Community Garden presented an evocative photograph of a twisted tree by local snapper Ian Coles and Angair added artist Ursula Shepherd’s hungry Black-tailed Cockatoo.

In a thank-you letter to Angair, Eathorne wrote: ‘Belonging to Angair has given me so much, I have learnt more about the plants and ecology … than I thought possible… helped all along the way by Angair members. Friendships made when working toward a common goal are very special’. Wise as always, Eathorne.
