The Allen Noble Sanctuary provides an important habitat for a large number of water and bush birds. It has been extensively redesigned and replanted in recent years, and showcases numerous indigenous plants which, as well as improving the biodiversity and visual impact, provide a useful educational tool for local residents and tourists.
The Friends of Allen Noble Sanctuary work within the framework of Angair, and with the support of the Surf Coast Shire, to control and, where possible, eradicate environmental weeds within the Allen Noble Sanctuary and replant in cleared areas.
Working bees are held on the fourth Sunday between March and November.

Draft Management Plan
A working group has been established to consider the future of the Allen Noble Sanctuary. The group comprises expertise from various community groups including Friends of the Allen Noble Sanctuary (FANS); Aireys Inlet and District Association (AIDA); Anglesea, Aireys Inlet Society for the Protection of Flora and Fauna (Angair); Painkalac Valley Network (PVN) and Estuary Watch. This group has developed a working draft of a Management Plan for the Allen Noble Sanctuary.
Purpose of the plan
The future for the Allen Noble Sanctuary is one in which the Sanctuary’s natural assets are protected and sustained through strong environmental, economic and social values.
This plan provides a framework to work towards that future. It must be noted that at this stage, this document (an incomplete working draft) is a community planning exercise without any committment or budget from any agency.
The FANS have conducted a survey to collect information about visiting patterns at the Allen Noble Sanctuary and community views about its future. You can read the results of the survey here. An article about the history of the Sanctuary and the survey is published in the December 2024 AIDA newsletter. You can read this article here.
