Inspirational Conservation:
How a community fought back, gave back and then nature made a come back

2nd Year Bachelor students from Photography Studies College, Melbourne – Kylie Murphy, Avalon Morrison, Rebecca Law, Lucky Frawley and Anna Madde – undertook a project about Lot 2, an 11-acre parcel of land near Aireys Inlet, bordering alongside the Painkalac Creek.

As many of you will be aware, the community rallied to prevent urban redevelopment, ultimately succeeding when local ophthalmologist Michael Loughnan and his partner Jacinta Halloran purchased the land with a vision to “Rewild”—to rehabilitate it using local native species. Today, Lot 2 stands under the perpetual protection of the Trust for Nature Covenant, ensuring its preservation for generations to come.

The students have created a website as an outcome of their project which can be viewed here – https://lot218.wixsite.com/lot2. (Please be patient as it takes a while to load).

The website contains sounds from Lot 2, drone footage of the site and an interview with Michael.
