This is a very important area as it is the main area where Fringed Hare Orchids Leporella fimbriata are found in Anglesea.
There is an extensive group along the roadside with a few Tiny Greenhoods Pterostylis parviflora amongst them.
Fringed Hare Orchids with Tiny Greenhoods
Along the small track opposite they are scattered amongst the heathy vegetation.
We produced a good list of plants as we wandered along the track and back.
Exploring the recently burnt area at the top of the hill we discovered leaves of Red Beak, Small Helmet and Sun Orchids, and a single flowering Tufted Lobelia Lobelia rhombifolia. This Lobelia flowers after fire.
Finally as we walked back to the cars we discovered a beautiful flowering Dwarf Boronia Boronia nana var. nana. This area has been retained by Alcoa at this stage but we hope it will become part of the National Park and the orchid habitat protected.
