I participated in a shorebird count at Swan Bay on 4 February. We did a long walk beside the water’s edge, south from Andersons Road to Knights Road. You can access the area north and south from the Swan Bay Jetty – this is roughly in the middle of the bird count area. There was a lot of bird counting required (e.g. 315 Black Swans) with results being recorded in BirdLife Australia’s Birdata database for later analysis. My highlight was a flotilla of 33 pelicans.

There was a good turn out (20+) for the February Angair bird walk at Coogoorah Park. Bird highlight was a fairly close viewing of an Olive-backed Oriole.

For March, we will be heading to the Brisbane Ranges. Local expert John Newman will be taking us to his favourite spots – should be exciting!
