We were thrilled to see the delightful Fringed Hare Orchids, Leporella fimbriata, flowering amongst low vegetation. Although the flower stem is only 25 cm high, the vibrant colour of the green and purple fringed labellum stood out well in the morning sunshine.

The timing of flowering is affected by late summer or early autumn rain so the recent rain must have encouraged them. One or two ovate leaves with red veins appear after flowering. Look for them in the heathland or along the sides of tracks in heathy woodland.
